A KOL, or key opinion leader, is an influencer whose posts, Telegram calls or X threads can move a token's price. Memecoin traders follow KOLs because a call from a big account can bring a wave of buyers.
Why it matters
A KOL's audience is also their liquidity. When a KOL buys before posting and sells into the buying they create, followers become exit liquidity. Paid promotion is common and rarely disclosed. A 2025 leak of one agency's client list showed fewer than 5 of more than 160 paid accounts labelled their posts as ads, at $1,500–$60,000 per post.
How to judge a KOL
- Track record. Grade their calls on follower-achievable returns, not on the lowest price or the peak.
- Conflicts. Did they buy before the call, and did they sell into it?
- Misses. A record that only shows wins isn't a record.
Amplified's Trader Profiles show every call a public caller has made, with the entry a follower could realistically have got and whether the caller sold into their own call.
