What is a contract address (CA)?

Updated Sep 28, 2026

The unique on-chain address of a token's smart contract. It's the only reliable way to identify a token, because names and tickers can be copied.

A token's contract address, or CA, is the unique address of its smart contract on the blockchain. On Robinhood Chain, as on other Ethereum-compatible chains, it's a 42-character string starting with 0x.

Why it matters

Anyone can create a token with the same name and ticker as a popular one. Copycat tokens are extremely common. One 2026 study of pump.fun counted about 1.5 million. The contract address is the only reliable identifier.

Good habits

  • Get the CA from the project's official channels, then cross-check it on the block explorer.
  • Paste the full address into your trading app rather than searching by name.
  • Be wary of CAs posted in replies or DMs, because scammers post look-alike addresses.
  • Check the first and last several characters every time. Look-alike addresses are built to match the first and last few.
